I am a conservative. But within the world of social media, one of the drivers of news nowadays, this would be considered abnormal as I am also an immigrant despite there being no contradiction between being an immigrant and a conservative. However, this is unfortunately only one example of the misinformation and mistaken ideas that surround the perception of conservatism in the online and world consciousness. Resolving this misunderstanding and others like it will be part of the mission of Conservatives Global.
Through Conservatives Global we will build an international brand to lead the discussion on conservative policy, including the case for free market economics, traditional social institutions and the defence of democratic nation states. It will demonstrate why I and many others around the world are conservatives by making and strengthening the positive case for conservatism. We will work to enable a united conservative movement that creates a better understanding of conservative politics around the world.
As part of this, we will be hosting content from conservative politicians and campaigns across the world. This will be to create a united message and inform conservatives of what is going on amongst allies around the world. With time, it is my belief that greater exposure to each-other’s campaigns and ideas will lead to the formation of deep and meaningful networks of communication and policy development that go beyond nation-status or international diplomacy. Conservatives Global will provide a first step along that path and we will encourage friendly and tolerant debate between contributors on our platform. It is long past time we had a consistent and reliable conservative message for the world.
Some people may ask why this sort of step may be necessary. In recent years, conservatives have won unexpected and unprecedented victories – Boris Johnson in the UK, Scott Morrison in Australia and Donald Trump in the US. However, more than ever before studies show increasing numbers of people, particularly younger generations, sympathising with communism and socialism – an ideology that has never failed to produce murderous, repressive and totalitarian regimes no matter the country or situation.
It is this rejection of conservatism that makes the information aspect of Conservatives Global so important. It is my hope that through a vigorous social media campaign we may be able to reach out not only conservatives and conservative sympathisers but also those who reject our views. We cannot stay rooted in the past, we must move forward. Just like Sebastian Kurz and his coalition with the Greens, we must work with the hand that we have been dealt. This will ensure that conservative policies and parties will thrive as we change with the times but maintain our core principles.
Every generation must defeat socialism and every generation must learn the value of conservatism.
